1 Peter 1:3, Our living hope

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (1 Peter 1:3)

Where is our hope?

In this verse, Peter praises God the Father, because He has been so incredibly merciful to us. How do we know this? Because he has given us new life (born again) and He did this by raising us up with Jesus Christ (we live because He lives). This is the amazing grace that every believer posesses, new life in Jesus Christ!

And so, now that we have eternal life, where is our hope? Peter tells us that that we have been born again to a living hope. But what is this living hope?

Our hope is alive. Our hope stands before the Father as our Advocate (Helper). Our hope holds us in His hands, and none can snatch us away from Him. Our living hope has prepared a place for us, for us to be with Him forever. He has built his Church and the gates of Hell cannot prevail over it. He is the Lamb that was slain for our sin, and we will worship before Him in perfect holiness as His bride.

He is Jesus Christ, our living hope.

1 Peter 1:1-2, The Trinity at work

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who are elect exiles of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood:
May grace and peace be multiplied to you. (1 Peter 1:1-2)

Here, Peter explains what the different workings of the Trinity in the life of the Christian.

God the Father is the One who chooses us according to His perfect plan. That's what Peter is saying when he calls Christians elect exiles... according to the foreknowledge of God the Father,

God the Spirit is the One who makes us holy, or more like God, in the sanctification of the Spirit.

God the Son is the One who atones (pays) for our sin, for sprinkling with his blood:, and He is the One we are to serve and obey, for obedience to Jesus Christ.

Praise our Triune (Three-in-One) God! Because He has not forgotten us, nor has He ignored us. Instead, each person of the Godhead has worked effectively for our good and His glory. We are so loved and so perfectly cared for by His grace: chosen by the Father, sanctified by the Spirit, and sprinkled by the Son. In the light of such amazing grace, we must return to Him a obedient and submissive heart.
